About

Melissa “Rambo” Schobert is a native of Milwaukee, WI, and is currently attending the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Jewelry and Metalsmithing, a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Contemporary Dance Choreography and Performance, a minor in Spanish Language, and a certificate in Digital Fabrication and Design. Thanks to a background in small-business manufacturing, she has an acute appreciation for the value of skilled and hard-working hands. In her time at UWM, Rambo has participated in several of the the Jewelry and Metalsmithing area’s annual student exhibitions, which have been juried by the likes of Bob Ebendorf and Harlan Butt.  As a member of Object, the Jewelry and Metalsmithing Student Organization at UWM , she has also participated in several of the annual Contemporary Craft sales.  At UWM, Rambo has had the pleasure of working as the SI Leader for Art 106: Art Survey and TA for Art 478: Digital Fabrication and Craft. Most recently, she participated in the Wisconsin edition of Radical Jewelry Makeover.  Her current body of work draws on her dancer’s understanding of the body and utilizes a mixture of digital, industrial, and conventional metalsmithing techniques to create large-scale wearables.  These pieces highlight the relationships and functions of the body, offering a poetic and experiential awareness of the physical self.
